The study includes feedback from over 19,000 gamers across 16 countries. Many players said games give them a sense of joy and relief from daily stress. Others mentioned that gaming helps them stay close to friends and family, especially when they cannot meet in person.
Sony found that 78% of respondents use games to relax after a long day. About 70% said playing games improves their mood. More than half feel more confident or creative after gaming sessions. The report also notes that multiplayer games often lead to stronger friendships and teamwork skills.
Parents who took part in the survey shared that games help their children learn problem-solving and patience. Teachers and youth workers echoed similar views, pointing to games as tools for engagement and learning.
Sony says this research supports its belief that play is not just entertainment. It is a meaningful part of everyday life. The company plans to use these insights to shape future game development and community programs.
The “Power of Play” report is part of Sony’s ongoing effort to understand how interactive entertainment impacts society. Data was gathered through online surveys and interviews conducted between January and March. Results were reviewed by independent researchers to ensure accuracy and fairness.
