Infosys BPO Enters Into a Five-Year Deal With T-Mobile

On August 4 Infosys BPO officially announced that it has entered into a five-year contract with T-Mobile of UK. Infosys BPO will henceforth be responsible for handling many of T-Mobile’s core processes including customer finance, commercial finance and accounting and procurement operations. These are all the major processes of the finance directorate of T-Mobile.

Before we get into discussing the specifics of the deal and how it benefits the two companies it makes sense to know a little about each of the companies.

T-Mobile
T-Mobile is one of the largest mobile operators in UK and in the world. It has a healthy customer base of 16.7 million in the UK alone and its worldwide customer count goes up to 125 million. T-Mobile has been known to innovate both in the products and service category. Some of their most popular services include Flext, a package that includes both minutes and text, Combi which is their SIM-only plan, and Solo. They were also the first to introduce a flexible tariff in UK. T-Mobile has also led the way when it comes to new devices. They were the first to launch Google’s Android-based smart phone and the legendary T-Mobile G1 now offers more than a thousand applications. T-Mobile has also been a forerunner in 3G services and has a rapidly expanding 3G network.

Infosys BPO
Infosys BPO is a subsidiary of Infosys Technologies, one of the largest IT companies in India and the world. Infosys BPO was established in 2002 and has made rapid progress to become one of the top-ranked BPO companies of India. The revenue of the company has swelled to over $300 million dollars for the fiscal year 2008-09. It has clients from all over the world and its offices are in China, Philippines and Thailand in Asia, Poland and the Czech Republic in Europe and Mexico in North America. Its headquarters are in India.

The Deal
The basic reason that T-Mobile has entered into the deal, as analysts put, is to make sure that they are able to concentrate on their core strengths including financial issues that are vital from a strategic point of view and which allows them to gain competitive advantage over their rivals. Infosys BPO will be responsible for the individual transactional activities. So it is kind of a load-sharing idea which is the basic thought behind all BPO deals.

That Infosys BPO has been able to land the deal bears testimony to the fact that they have invested so much resource on gaining expertise for particular domains. Their work with other telecom companies has played a key role n securing the contract. T-Mobile has most definitely been influenced by Infosys BPO’s track record in handling earlier projects and their knowledge about the sector.

The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed but from the kind of processes that have been outsourced, and that it is a long-term contract indicates that the deal will be one of the biggest for the Indian BPO industry.
