Research company Gartner this week announced that India’s domestic business process management market is expected to receive revenue of USD 1.6 billion by 2014 from USD 0.5 bullion in 2005. Whilst this is a figure that does get the attention of most people in the industry, the domestic Indian BPO market will not triple in the next 3 years.
However, there is substantial growth in the industry as there has been over the last few years. All of the leading BPO providers have signalled their intent…

I’ve often thought that entering into a business partnership is a lot like spinning plates on a stick; it requires a great deal of attention, a sure touch and a great deal of awareness.
Recent changes in the way contracts are sourced means that, in outsourcing terms, this is a task that’s become either much more difficult, or far more simplified in recent years, depending on what sort of organisation you are.
An example is the sharp decline in the number of single source ‘mega deals’ signed in…

Due to the symbiotic relationship it has with Windows, IE has dominated the browser space since it beat out Netscape almost ten years ago.
Nonetheless,
dot net developers say that a steady stagnation following the release of Windows XP in 2001, competitors like Firefox and Google Chrome made headway. With IE celebrating its 15th birthday as a market leader, it is also in stiff competition with rivals.
Analysts say that IE has never…

Better relationships result in better outsourcing
American businessman and entrepreneur JC Penney once famously opined that “every business is built on friendship”.
You might think that a close, long-standing friendship with your service providers seems like a little too much to ask for - if so, then at the very least, it’s perhaps worth looking into how you can strengthen your relations for the better, in order to achieve success?
The onset of globalisation means that there can often be a di…

When the G-Cloud strategy was announced last year, it was amidst claims from the Treasury’s Operational Efficiency Programme that it could save the government £3.2bn of its annual £16bn IT budget by 2013/14.
The proposal remains on schedule to achieve this, largely by replacing the existing government network of department-hosted systems with a dozen dedicated secure data centres, and encouraging government departments to share resources.
However, the questions on the lips of everyone in the I…

Centralization of IT or processes like finance, HR administration offers the ability to rationalize and standardize processes, allowing for lower cost, more consistent quality level and faster decision making. As voters expect their ministries and other government agencies to eat as little as their tax money as possible (especially in these times of economic hardship in the US and Europe), is sharing resources and processes a useful vehicle to achieve that goal.
As a result many ambitious objec…

The government immigration quota: how to fill the skills gap
If there's one issue guaranteed to get the pulse of the nation racing, it's immigration. Prime Minister David Cameron has spent the week juggling this particular political hot potato as he visits India to forge stronger trade and business links between the two nations.
However, there seems little doubt that the trip has been overshadowed by the government's announcement of a permanent immigration quota to be introduced from April nex…

According to Health Secretary Andrew Lansley’s plans outlined in last week’s white paper entitled ‘Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS’, patients and doctors have been promised a bigger role in health services. A range of online services will be provided much more efficiently at a time and place that is convenient for patients and will also enable greater efficiency.
What these reforms mean in practical terms is that strategic health authorities and primary care trusts will be phased out…

There has been rising controversy regarding outsourcing, particularly as unemployment is rising in the U.S in the wake of a recession. Adding to the loss of jobs in the U.S are sensitive issues like immigration which has soured international relationships with other countries.
Nonetheless, the practice which has been in use for nearly two decades continues to offer business solutions for achieving cost efficiency. For most positions, an outsourced job offers at least a 50 percent savings in ter…

BPO initially started with the need to focus on core services, but economic benefits were quickly realized as BPO providers gained economies of scale and scope. The prevalence of BPO quickly became one of labor arbitrage. Although many BPO providers are focusing on value and moving away from just cost advantages, a majority of them still rely on the labor differential. In my view, this approach will fail. Not just for the rising labor costs, but the way people are getting help is also changing.…

This week, Cabinet Secretary Francis Maude summoned government suppliers including Serco, Capita, Compass and WPP to a meeting to discuss radical changes to their contracts.
Bosses are bracing themselves for news that they must be prepared to lower their prices and consequently their profits on public sector contracts, in light of the drastic spending cuts.
