US Senator calls Infy a 'chop shop': Ignorance or a deliberate insult?

Democrat Senator Charles E Schumer has said that Indian IT companies like Infosys are "chop shops" that break stolen cars to sell parts. Schumer made this comment last week during a debate on a $ 600 million package to strengthen border security. Why would a US senator equate India's most respected infotech company with outfits that dismantle stolen cars and sell the parts? Is it ignorance, anger or a deliberate insult?

Government today termed as "unfortunate and avoidable" remarks by a US senator describing India's IT major Infosys as "chop shop".

"Infosys is one of the leading companies. It has a global name and brand. Any disparaging remark, I would term it unfortunate and avoidable," Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said in the Rajya Sabha.
