Hi are you one of the fortunate / unfortunate ones who are working on Independence Day, when the entire country is on a holiday?

There are many companies that follow different patterns on national holidays. For example, Daksh provides off to all support departments such as Quality Adherence (but not Operations) etc. Since its not possible for the entire department to be off, they provide double the overtime amount.

There are other companies who make no special arrangements or allowances for its employees who work on a holiday. These are the unfortunate ones.

Would love to know how your company motivates its employees to work on a national holiday.

slaves work on independance day for some pennies more its as simple as that
Hi Jasdeep the point of discussion is not slavery but to know what your company does for motivating employees to come to office on a national holiday. Its good to know that Genpact allows its employees a day off for national holidays.
company will give some more pennies to poor indians to lose their respect and work on 15 aug also
This air of negativity amongst these msgs show that even now , BPO employees do not realise that they are working on US/UK projects and for them there is no independence day on 15th Aug. Most of the companies do give work-off on 4th july(US process) and we should start respecting the same. Its better to enjoy what you do and realise why it is done. I am sure, next year same time we will have some positive messages.
Keeping my fingers crossed Ankush.
Although very late in replying to this thread hussain (2-3 years), but this is an issue with a difficult solution everytime.. We had to give an off to employees for Diwali today, who are supporting European clients. Its very difficult to manage client's as absenteeism affects their business critical processes. should we force the employees not to avoid office today or should we offer them double the pay today to come today- both are very weak solutions. I am looking for a solution to motivate employees to work on a national holiday.
Besides I am also in search for a list of those India holidays which are unavoidable as per govt regulation?

open communication helps. motivation to come to office has to occur much before such holidays. Diwali is always a difficult time. how about informing the team about the number of leaves that can be taken by the team in diwali? Ask for leave requests at least a month in advance, showing how much you want your employees to enjoy their holidays and your effort to minimize the impact on business. Appoint some of your employees to create motivational activities and contests, get fireworks, sweets etc. and advertise it with posters and banners, basically make it more fun to be in office than anywhere else. If you are already doing the above, employees will understand if you put harsher punishment for absent-ism, be it monetary or disciplinary. Of course we know that no one size fits all, there will always be people who no matter what you do, will take a leave or crib. The only thing we as managers can do is to reduce such occurrences with a 20% buffer (approx).
As for Indian Holidays, download the govt holiday list via google and provide it to your HR to finalise the holidays as per the norms and guidelines of the company.
hope this helps.
